Thank you for reminding me to re-explore American Graftiti in search of women of action. I suspect there are as many of them there as in all of art nude and glamour photography; nearly zero. Power, freedom, illegality, motorcycle, independence and action seem strangely outside the passive box we customarily reserve for glamorous, attractive, indolent, seductive women.
American Graffiti is about a lot of things that involve girls, guys, cars, music and exciting possibilities in a small town. It hasn't much to do with action, but there's lots and lots of talk. And girls giving orders that guys follow to the letter. It was well worth checking out. It's not the film I remembered. The girls were in total control.
